Students with autism oftentimes know when they need a break or special help. A great idea are "break cards" and "I need help cards." These cards are the perfect way to have students let you know that they need a break without causing a disruption in the classroom or some extra help. Place the cards within reach in your classroom. In addition, the "I need help cards" help students with autism who are hesitant to ask for help. By placing such cards within reach and allowing for non verbal communication calls for "help," students with autism may better indicate their needs.
