Meeting Needs at Home and in the Community


My previous post explained the importance of practicing and using the augmentative communication system at home and in the community.  Here I have provided several tips for parents and guardians to help promote the use of augmentative communication:

Many people in the community ARE NOT familiar with augmentative communication devices.  While in school and at home, there is the benefit that parents and teachers of the student with special needs have the ultimate goal of making the child successful with the device, the community is usually not quite as familiar with such technology.  Below are a few suggested ways to talk to an augmented communicator and a quick story about one person’s experience while using one.
