Supporting the Use of Augmentative Communication Systems at home and in the Community

In order to progress and meet the goals of the student, an augmentative communication system’s protocol must be followed.  Even at home, students must use their device and practice with it at home and within their communities.  This is important to do because both the student is involved and part of both environments and both home and school reflect different situations that require effective communication.  In order to have such effective communication, the student must practice with the device in different situations. My next post will give parents some tips as to how to help their student use augmetative communication to a fuller degree.
